Wrapping up 2022

2022 was a massive year for r10.

It was a year we set improved standards of who we want to be as a company and committed to a better future – with new strategic priorities and robust company culture – while playing a crucial part in the London insurance market’s digital transformation journey.

Let’s look at some of the highlights of 2022 and what we expect in the new year.

We have received market-wide recognition.

This year was full of acknowledgement for putting our people first through awards and accreditations.

  • Accredited as an Investor in People.

r10 was accessed and accredited by Investors in People as aa forward-thinking organisation that empoweres and involves people in the company’s future. It means principles and practices around supporting people are in place, and everyone understands how to use them to make work better.

  • Awarded the Rising Star Company of the Year.

We have proudly won this award from WeAreTheCity for our efforts to support our female talent pipeline. Our people-centric approach, training and development initiatives, and the principle we adhere to of “being inclusive” was recognised and celebrated.

  • r10’s COO, Jo Flint, is the Insurance Woman of the Year.

We are incredibly proud of Jo Flint to be recognised by the Women in Insurance Awards for her actions to help raise women’s profile in the sector through her commitments to attracting and retaining female talent, education, training, leadership, and mentoring.

Also, Laura Ryan, Head of Finance & Operations, was a finalist in the Unsung Hero (Service Provider) category for her positive difference in the company. Even if she didn’t win, her achievement and contributions are admirable.

Bigger & Better

This year, we welcomed change to enhance our expertise and improve our offerings, while remaining strong to the Principles We Live By.

The r10 family has grown significantly to evolve our expertise and address our client’s needs in areas such as Project Management, Business Analysis, Strategic Advisory, Operations, and Marketing.

A highlight was Hélène Stanway, an award-winning innovation market leader, joining as Director of Advisory, bringing her skills and deep experience to support the delivery of market adoption and digital transformation.

New partnerships, New Offerings.

We have continued expanding on our partnerships to bring knowledge and proven solutions to the forefront of our client’s digital transformation journey – in a more collaborative, faster, and cost-effective approach.

We had the first anniversary of the r10 Partner Ecosystem that provides an end-to-end solution across the entire insurance value chain, welcoming new members such as Global RADAR and WCL to complement the offerings and fit the challenges we see in the market.

Delivered Results & Shared Expertise.

We continued doing what we do best; focusing on delivering high-quality services to assist our customers in modernising.

The delivery team centered on offering capabilities such as –

  • Solution implementation and Advisory –the delivering and end-to-end solution approach of a full technology solution for a syndicate management company.
  • Enhanced capabilities with Subject Matter Experts – provided clear value to our customers with SME expertise.
  • Business Analysis services – contributed to achieving project goals on large transformation programmes by investigating, defining and aligning skills to business needs.
  • Testing and process improvement – defined the criteria to be evaluated and accepted for a delegated authority system for a leading reinsurance provider.
  • Advisory and expertise in Operations –a global service provider required SMEs to fulfil their short-term business goals and a conduit was needed between the end-client and operational team.
  • Technology solutions for flexible approaches to transformation –worked with an MGA to consolidate their delegated underwriting authority book using a connectivity tool to report data in a consistent and reliable manner.

Our experts and thought leaders also shared insightful content. To mention a few –

Taking accountability for our ethical future.

We want to impact the future by investing more in our people, the wider community, and the environment – in a series of measurable actions that correspond to our ESG commitments. Some highlights –

• Being Diverse & Inclusive.

We are committed to constantly seeking ways to challenge bias, amplify more voices, and promote accessibility to attract and retain diverse talent, while collecting meaningful data and putting measures in place to ensure we continue to progress. It’s fantastic that our actions embedding DE&I ways of working have been recognised in the Rising Star Company of the Year award.

Natalie Reis, was selected as the DE&I Champion, and worked with the rest of the team to bring light to DE&I days, spread awareness and education on important topics, celebrate our differences as individuals, and be better allies. She wrote a great article on achieving Diversity of Thought, shared insights on an International Women’s Day podcast with our talent expert Lauren O’Donoghue focusing on gender equality, progress, and future, and helped us celebrate PRIDE by communicating how to be better allies and getting involved with LGBTQ+ charities.

In Black History Month, it was an honour to have Leon Walker, UK Leader of Aon Inpoint and Diversity Advocate, on the r10 Podcast. In an honest and insightful conversation with Amechi Peirce-Howe, r10’s Managing Partner, they shared empowering insights on diversity progress, actions and gaps in the insurance market.

We always strive to prioritise a work environment that fosters and supports wellbeing and mental health.

This year we have appointed a trained Mental Health Champion. Laura Ryan’s actions ensure that employees and managers are supported to create a mentally healthy workplace and that those needing help can easily access support. We have launched activities and promoted benefits encouraging physical exercise, mental health wellbeing, and connection.

We have signed and taken action towards two pledges that positively impact our people:

  • Menopause Working Pledge – to talk openly and respectfully about menopause, and actively support our employees through honest discussions, resources and policies.
  • Financial Flexible Working Pledge – to support the financial wellbeing of our employees and help them understand and control their financial future.
Support The Community

We have committed to giving back our skills, time and resources to the community and future generations through various initiatives, including:

  • Our charity partnership with Deedbees – supporting young people to build independent and successful futures regardless of background. As consultants, we have a wealth of experience and knowledge in various areas and offer one-to-one sessions to advise, guide and mention young professionals.
  • Volunteering our time – our people support causes to make a difference by being encouraged to utilise the 3 volunteering days offered by r10. From volunteering at the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, to Ellenor’s Hospice Lights of Love Appeal, fundraising for ABF soldiers charity, school governing and more.
  • r10’s Talent in Sports programme is another way we supply resources to the community by sponsoring sporting talent so they can have the right kit and facilities. This year, we are sponsoring the Royal Navy’s Eastern Region Football team and Linton Park Cricket Club, who make us proud to see them succeed and improve.

Be eco-friendly

We have committed to reducing our climate impact and embarked on a journey to understand, calculate, and reduce our emissions while enhancing environmental awareness and promoting eco-friendly alternatives, starting with what we can each do better.

Looking forward to 2023!

There are always positives when we look back. But 2022 had many global hardships that we all want to leave behind – from the pandemic aftermath, the war in Ukraine, the cost-of-living crisis, natural catastrophes etc. This year taught us again not to take things for granted and continue building resilience and supporting each other.

Within our sphere of influence, we want to continue our mission to help our clients welcome future challenges with innovative thinking and the right technology while prioritising the Principles We Live By and ESG commitments to support our people and future generations. In 2023, we expect the momentum to build with London Market digitisation, and Blueprint Two progressing with engagement and support from the market and vendors. We will continue working closely with our clients to onboard and realise the benefits of CDR, MRC, and other digitalisation avenues.

Last but not least, a big thank you to our community of clients, associates and partners for their ongoing support and the r10 team that stays motivated, adaptable, supportive of each other, and continuously improving.
